In 2024, the Buffalo County Historical Society received a Mini-Grant from the Wisconsin Historical Society to clean and preserve a collection of glass plate negatives created by Florian Ruedy, a photographer from Cochrane, Wisconsin. Ruedy was active between 1900 and 1908, and his work includes portraits, landscapes, and local architecture throughout Buffalo County.

The collection primarily consists of 5″ x 7″ glass plates. We are currently cleaning these plates and inputting the information into PastPerfect Museum Software. Each image is scanned and assigned an accession number before being placed into an individual four-flap, acid-free envelope. These envelopes are then stored in acid-free boxes specifically designed for preservation. This process is time-consuming, but it ultimately ensures the longevity of these historical slides.

We will share some of our favorite images on this page as we progress on this project. Thank you to the Wisconsin Historical Society for their financial assistance!
